Educrats discovered more than a century ago that they could create for themselves a taxpayer funded monopoly by simply and repeatedly chanting the sacred mantra: “For the children… For the children…” It’s not clear why this incantation works so much better when it comes to education than it does for the provision of even more fundamental needs “For the children.” Surely such things as food, shelter and healthcare are more important than schooling. In any event what is crystal clear, however, is that this subsidy to parents and the education industry has produced the kind of product one would expect from a monopoly. It’s long past time to allow competition.
